FCT SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT SECRETARIAT(SDS)

INTRODUCTION
The FCT Social Development Secretariat (SDS) is an Administrative structure under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) established in 2004.

The Secretariat is headed by the Mandate Secretary –  the Political Head, and the Permanent Secretary – the Administrative Head.

The secretariat currently has five (5) Departments, namely:

  1. Administration and Finance
  2. Arts and Culture
  3. Social Welfare Services
  4. Tourism Development
    and
  5. Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS)

with complementary special units under the Mandate Secretary’s office viz:

i.Media/Information

ii.Protocol Services

iii.Legal Services

iv.Budget

v.Procurement

vi.Servicom

vii.HIV/AIDS

viii.Audit

* Through the departments, SDS executes her core Mandates, which includes; Promotion of social wellbeing of FCT residents, protecting and alleviating the challenges of the vulnerable members of the society, promoting Arts and Culture, Tourism and other  activities in the society.

* SDS Headquarters
is located at Cyprian Ekwensi Centre for Arts and Culture, Area 10, Garki, Abuja, with  outpost offices at Area 3 and other facilities located in various parts of FCT.

MANDATE :
The Social Development Secretariat (SDS) has a Mandate of;

* Providing a nurturing environment, protecting rights and advocacy for children and other vulnerable groups in the territory.

* Overseeing important social imperative and poverty alleviation programs for vulnerable and disadvantaged groups and communities.

* Promoting arts, culture, and tourism activities within the territory as well as such other functions as are incidental to the furtherance of these objectives.

VISION :
The vision of the Social Development Secretariat is excellent and accessible social services to the residents of the FCT.

MISSION:
The mission of the Social Development Secretariat is providing secondary social services by protecting rights and enhancing the social well-being of FCT residents.

HOWEVER, the Secretariat’s core mandate is to ensure the implementation of policies and programs that guarantee the rights and social well-being of FCT residents.

*The core values of the Social Development Secretariat are dedication to duty, transparency and accountability, professionalism, due process, rule of law equity, teamwork, and motivation.
